Student (lat. studens - "to direct one's zeal at") is a person who is studying at institutes of higher education and, in some countries, at the institutes of secondary education. In Ancient Rome and in the Middle Ages students were everybody who learned something. In the XII century universities appeared and since that time students were everybody who studied and taught there. Then the academic ranks for teachers (Master, professor, etc.) have been introduced and since that time students are only those who study.
In most cases students attend the institutes of higher education or specialized secondary schools (colleges), take part in seminars and lectures. An exception to the rule is students of tuition by correspondence who come to the institutes of higher education or specialized secondary schools to pass examinations and attend a succinct series of lectures.
The real students’ life is not only studies and examinations. It is also merry holidays, that you’ll remember the whole life.
