Statute of educational and methodological materials preparation, publication and use for the basic educational programs of the Ural Institute of Economics, Management and Law

1.     Generalities:

1.1    The present Statute describes the order of preparation and publication of educational and methodological materials with the stamp of the Ural Institute of Economics, Management and Law in the process of education on the basic educational programs that are realized on full-time tuition, part-time tuition and tuition by correspondence. It also contains the general requirements to the content and execution of educational and methodological materials of different types.

1.2     Educational and methodological materials are made to provide students with all necessary methodological materials during their study on curriculum subjects. They are also made to improve the educational process at the Institute as well as the quality of students’ training.

1.3      Educational and methodological materials of a curriculum subject have to correspond to the aims and tasks of an academic year and should follow the logic of a material.

1.4      Educational and methodological materials with the stamp of the Institute can be prepared in seven basic formats:

  • “Program of a discipline” (type 1):
  • “Educational and methodological complex on a discipline” (type 2);
  • “Educational and methodological teaching aid (instructions) on a discipline” (type 3);
  • “Educational teaching aid on a discipline” (type 4);
  • “Workbook” (type 5);
  • “Plan and summary of lectures on a discipline” (type 6);
  • “Reading book on a discipline” (type 7).

1.5    The department determines the type of educational and methodological materials and editorial publishing department of the Institute approves in the order stipulated in the present Statute.

2.           Content of educational and methodological materials

2.1      “Program of a discipline” is a detailed description of discipline content in didactic units. It contains the following sections:

  • brief annotation;
  • introduction that contains the aim and tasks of a discipline, requirements to a student (a student has to know), organizational forms of study and forms of knowledge control, criteria of marks for examinations (tests), requirements of the State Educational Standards;
  • plan that contains the names of sections and separate topics of a discipline, types and duration (in academic hours) of lectures, seminars and independent work on every topic (individually for students of full-time tuition, part-time tuition and tuition by correspondence);
  • content of disciplines’ topics;
  • approximate questions for examination (test);
  • list of basic (with the stamp of Ministry for the last years) and additional literature on a discipline in whole;
  • list of basic and additional literature on each topic;
  • plans of seminars (practical trainings) that contain the names of topics, literature, questions for discussion, tasks and practical situations;
  • tests on separate topics and tests on a discipline in whole;
  • themes of reports and literature for their preparation;
  • approximate questions for an oral examination (test) on a discipline or examples of a written final work;
  • approximate themes of yearly projects;
  • glossary.

2.3 “Education and methodological teaching aid on a discipline” or “education and methodological instructions on a discipline” is just one detailed section of educational and methodological complex.

Teaching aid and instructions have different volume. The example of a name: “Educational and methodological instructions (teaching aid) on solving problems on a course …”; “Educational and methodological instructions (teaching aid) on passing the tests on a course…”; “Educational and methodological practical work (instructions, teaching aid) on solving incidents on a course”; “Educational and methodological instructions (teaching aid) on graduate work execution and writing on a course…”; “Educational and methodological instructions (teaching aid) on analysis of normative acts on a course…”, etc.

2.4 “Educational teaching aid on a discipline” is an edition that supplements or substitutes completely or partially for a textbook and meets the requirements that are set for editions of this kind in the system of higher professional education.

2.5 “Workbook” is materials that contain in a brief form the basic didactic units of a course of lectures for students’ more effective work.

2.6 “Plan and summary of lectures on a discipline” is materials that contain in a brief form an academic’s course.

2.7 “Reading book on a discipline” is a set of documents, normative acts, and statistical data that make a discipline study more profound.

3. Educational and methodological materials preparation, publication procedure

3.1 Academics of a given discipline prepare educational and methodological materials.

3.2 During a meeting the department that is responsible for a discipline realization makes a decision about the preparation of educational and methodological materials and gives a recommendation of their publication. Educational and methodological materials receive external (with a stamp) and internal (approved by a department within a faculty) reviewing.

3.3 Extract from the minutes of the department’s meeting, internal and external reviews are taken to the editorial publishing department of the Institute together with the educational and methodological materials that are prepared for publication. Pro-rector on scientific work and education and methodological committee make a decision about the publication. Pro-rector on scientific work determines a number of copies in accordance with the Institutes needs.

3.4 Educational and methodological materials are issued in compliance with the departments’ plans. Pro-rector on scientific work controls the educational and methodological materials are received and published in time.

4. Requirements to the execution of educational and methodological materials

4.1 Educational and methodological materials with a stamp of the Ural Institute of Economics, Management and Law are executed in compliance with the requirements of the editorial publishing department.

5. Procedure of educational and methodological materials distribution and use

5.1 Educational and methodological materials can be used within the Institute during the educational process on basic educational programs of full-time tuition, part-time tuition and tuition by correspondence as well as on additional educational programs, including programs of professional retraining and advanced training.

5.2 “Program of a discipline” is a precondition for all academic subjects that are included in curriculum of students’ training.

5.3 Educational and methodological materials can be found in local network of the Institute and its branches and can be placed at site of the Institute.

5.4 In order to use the materials made by an academic author's contract is set up to transfer to the Institute rights to publish an academic’s work. The contract includes the duration of agreement for publishing, fee, order and date of its payment and other conditions that are important for parties. Contracts’ execution is carried out through editorial publishing department of the Institute.
